Tal-y-bont
Talybont (sometimes written Tall Y Bont)
is situated 4 miles north of Barmouth and 6 miles south
of Harlech in Gwynedd, North Wales and lies within the Snowdonia
National Park.
The village lies between the sea to the west and the mountains
to the east from which the river Ysgethin flows through
the village towards the sea. The bridge which carries the
A496 over this river probably gives the village its name
as bont in Welsh means bridge.
Near the bridge is the public car park and phone. Adjacent
is the village shop, post office and Tony's Restaurant.
The car park also acts as a meeting point for hill walkers.
The village was founded hundreds of years
ago and some of the buildings testify to the long and interesting
history of the village.
Over the last 30 years or so many caravan and camping sites
have been established and these attract many people especially
during the warmer seasons. Yes, Talybont is a popular place
to live in or visit as it benefits by being near to some
of the most spectacular scenery in the country and the mild
and unique eco-climate.
