Magnificient, yes, but also one of the finest examples of a Natural Dune System.
Miles of sandy shoreline with more than a passing influence from the Gulf Stream.
Bounded by the Afon Glaslyn Estuary to the north with views of Portmeirion, the Italianate Village designed and built by Clough Williams-Ellis in the 1920's.
To the south is Llandanwg, with its rock pools to explore. This hamlet is home to a Church often buried by the sands with its roots in another time, AD435 to be precise, originating from about the time that the Romans were leaving our Isles.
In 1988 the World's largest recorded Turtle was washed up
drowned on Harlech Beach. Weighing over 900 kgs and 3 Metres in length.
Its age was estimated at 100 years. It had been entangled in fishing
lines.
Harlech Beach has recently been filmed for TV adverts - Visit Wales - with commentary by Rhod Gilbert.
Next to the beach is Royal St Davids Golf Club, founded in 1894 and is now one of the world's finest Championship courses with a superb position on the edge of the beach and framed by Harlech Castle in the background.
If you're looking for a crowds you'll probably be disappointed, but if you enjoy serenity you'll find it here.
